Dr. Robert L. Shenker - My Approach to Cosmetic Plastic Surgery
Each year millions of men and women of all ages improve their appearance and enhance the quality of their lives with cosmetic surgery and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. Modern techniques mean smaller incisions and quicker recovery, with less noticeable scars. These advances provide patients with more convenience and affordability than at any time in history.
I believe that cosmetic surgery must be individualized and custom fit to each patient. Some cosmetic surgery is best done at a younger age, and that there are other times when cosmetic procedures should wait until a person is older. Sometimes the best plan requires surgery, while simple nonsurgical procedures will be most effective in other situations. It is the process of working together with you over time to satisfy your needs that gives me the greatest professional satisfaction.
My philosophy with respect to cosmetic surgery is to provide safe, subtle, and satisfying results that will help patients look, feel, and be their best. I offer safe, research-proven aesthetic enhancements for people who want to discover their natural radiance without compromising good health. Whether it involves the face, the abdomen, the breasts, or any other part of the body, cosmetic surgery provides physical and aesthetic benefits that enhance patient confidence and self image.
During an initial consultation, I listen to your concerns about your appearance and then work with you to address those concerns. After I examine you, I will then take the time to describe your options in detail. If we agree that a surgical procedure is appropriate, I will show you drawings and photographs of the operation. I may even draw the proposed operative markings on your body so that you can see exactly where any scars will be. You will also have a chance to talk to my patient care coordinator to review details of the pre- and post-operative processes. She will help guide you through the details you need to know to make sure you are fully prepared for your operation.
I know that the decision to pursue cosmetic surgery can be a complex one. This decision should seldom be made at the time of the initial consultation. I encourage you to reflect on our discussions in the comfort of your own home. I will send you a letter detailing the various options we have discussed so that you will have all the information you need from me, plenty of time to consider all your options, and the opportunity to discuss it with your family and friends if you choose to. You will be able to contact some of my patients who have undergone similar procedures. They would be happy to talk to you about their experiences under my care. For those who decide to go ahead with surgery, or for those who simply have more questions, a second visit will be scheduled to review the plan and answer your questions.
There are many things I love about plastic surgery. I love the way a patient's life can be transformed by a simple surgical procedure. I love helping people regain the ability to live their lives to the fullest through reconstructive or cosmetic surgery with procedures that can allow their personalities to shine. It is the broad range of patients, their concerns, and the wide range of options that can be used to address patient concerns that make plastic surgery such a wonderful profession and art form.
I believe that my relationship with each patient is unique. If you choose to undergo surgery or other procedures with me, you will be embarking on a long-term relationship during which I will continue to care for your appearance and your health for as long as you need me. After surgery, I will continue to see you for routine follow-up visits for as long as you care to return.
